Bodice Cooler?

  • May 12, 2011 2:51 am

I’ve seen these at Renaissance Faires and Pirate Festivals. A friend had one once and we cannot find them anywhere since then. A "Bodice Cooler" is a small tulip shaped vase that women place inbetween thier breasts and it is filled with ice to get you cool. Renn costumes can be heavey and hot so this is pretty popular in some of the local faires. I’m in southern California but if you know where to find one by mail that would be great!

Thanks for the link to Bodices but I’m looking for a glas vase to put in there… not a clothing item.

Time for a change….(costume questions)?

  • March 11, 2011 1:26 pm

So, my boyfriend and I, for the past 6 years have been attending our local renaissance fair, as well as costume parties dressed as pirates. The costumes are nice, leather and other material. All in all, I think we spent about 00 on them (we pieced them together over the years). However, it’s time for some change. The boyfriend got a black leather kilt and is switching into a "dark" celt type costume.

I’m not really sure that I want to coordinate with it, so I am asking for some opinions. I’m a pale blonde, so I like darker colors vs. light. My current costume consists of a black leather corset with a red celtic knot on the front and shoulders. A red under dress with a black skirt under the dress. I have a red and black leather hat with tons of feathers. So here are a few of my ideas for the next costume, just tell me which you like, or make a suggestion. Thanks in advance!

1.) Gypsy garb: Halter with cross lacings that criss cross over the back and stomach to tie around waiste. With long skirt, coin belt and ankle bells. Colors in black and red. (tribal style)

2:) Gypsy Garb – Black half corset (wears like a bra), with sheer dark purple under shirt that has split bell sleeves, a chiffon emerald green and dark purple over skirt with a black harem pants underneath. Hip scarf and ankle bells.

3.) Irish garb – a black bodice with a black split front skirt, with a white under dress
Just a tid bit. We are not going for acurracy when it comes to the period clothing. We save that for when we participate in the SCA and nailing your time period is key. The ren-faire in essence is fantasy. Make believe.

Colors that Coordinate with Purple?

  • February 20, 2011 6:14 pm

I am trying to put together a renaissance costume and can’t decide what colors to use. I have a brown shirt (chemise), a dark purple/plum vest (bodice), and I need to decide on a skirt color, choosing from among hunter green, navy blue, dark wine red, and muddy brown.

–I kind of like the red, but I’m afraid red and purple together will look too much like I’m trying to put on royalty colors.
–My question about the navy blue is whether I ought to put a "cool" tone color blue with a "warm" tone color purple.
–The issue with the green is that it won’t coordinate well with my other costume pieces for future mix-and-matching, and I don’t know if green and purple are supposed to go together
–I’m afraid brown will look too dull and pauper-like, plus I’m not sure that it’s the same brown as the shirt.

Please let me know what you think! Thank you!

What Material To Use For a Renaissance Bodice, or Corset?

  • December 30, 2010 6:14 pm

All right. I’m going to the Renaissance Fair. Our Fair is pretty laid back. You won’t be looked at funny for not wearing the costume. But the group I’m going with are all in costume. I’ve been wanting to get into it, and all my friends are, so I really wanna go in costume. I went last year, and my mom and I threw together some crappy bodice. But it was the WRONG material. I know how to make a bodice, well my mom does. But what kind of material do you use for a corset, or a bodice. Both really. I need something reasonable, but I’d like a list of all the materials that would look okay for a bodice/corset. And any other interesting ideas, like good patterns, sewing techniques. Just anything. This will be my second time, and anything to help would be awesome. I tried to check all over the internet, but there were no sites that I could find that would give me an idea of what material to use. I don’t have a clue about materials, but if you just give me a list. I’ll go to the store with my mom, and we’ll check ‘em out. She’s the seamstress, I’m the learner. So just help me out!

What kind of Halloween costume can I make out of a Ren Fair bodice?

  • November 18, 2010 3:47 am

I got a bodice at a Renaissance Fair, and I’d like to make a Halloween costume out of it that’s not from the Renaissance. It’s reversible: black on one side and purple on the other.

What can I pair it with?

Renaissance Clothing , wich would you buy?

  • November 4, 2010 6:12 am

I make and sell renaissance clothing.. and just want some feedback, If you were looking to buy something for a renaissance / medieval fair.. would you rather go cheap and buy just a bodice and make up the rest , or would you rather spend the money and buy a whole costume..? thanks!

Costume ideas?

  • September 21, 2010 7:22 pm

Hey! I’m looking for opinions I have a poofy black prom dress with beading on the bodice. It’s got a tight bodice until mid hip and then lots I mean lots of ruffles. I need ideas for a non scary and non sexy costume I can make with minimal purchases. I’m ok with alterations so that’s alright. Last year I used it to be a masquerade attendant. Any help will be more than appreciated!

Can anyone help me find trim for my renaissance costume?

  • September 20, 2010 1:24 pm

I’ve been searching around for some ribbon and some fringe that will work with my costume. I’ve already got the bodice made and close to finished beading. What I’m looking for is some ribbon for a skirt I’m making out of yellow peach/orange and a silvery green fabric. They’re vertical stripes and I’m looking for some ribbon that has those colors and an almost maroon red color to cover up the seams. I’m also looking for most of those colors in a fringe for around the brown overskirt I’m making. I’m just wondering if anyone has some ideas on websites I should check out. thanks bye

Help with costume for the Renaissance Faire?

  • September 12, 2010 10:59 am

This year I am going to the Renaissance Faire with my school! YAY! We have to wear costume, so far I have collected a tan dress. The texture of the dress is a bit like soft burlap, however, I am not sure what to wear with it. I know that I would like a bodice (isn’t that what they called the small vest-like apparel that they wear over the dress?)
but I am not sure what colors were available to the lower class during the Renaissance, so I am not sure what color or texture of fabric to make that out of. Also, I need shoes, but I am a vegetarian and I would really prefer not to have to wear leather. If anyone can help, I’d be very appreciative!
Oh, and if it helps, I am tall (like 5 feet… and 3-4 inches?) and skinny, (only 100 pounds) I have long brown hair, so maybe hairstyles too, if you have any recommendations :)

Also, I don’t want to buy anything from a costume store or website. I prefer to go to Goodwill and look for things there. I am willing to buy fabric, etc., though.

Sorry that was so long :)

Where can I get CHEAP Renaissance/Medieval clothing?

  • September 11, 2010 11:00 am

I’m going to some Ren faires, etc. and I’m having trouble finding outfits.
I honestly do not have 50 bucks to spend on a bodice.
I don’t think I’m going to make my own, and I’m not gonna be renting costumes either.
Do you know of any good online places to get Renaissance clothing for cheap?
Thanks

renaissance costume colors for a stage show… color coordination needed!!!?

  • July 12, 2010 4:23 am

I’m in a magic show at a renaissance faire. myself and another person are "assistants" and I want to make a new costume so I can wear a different one each day. The one I have now is light purple with a white underskirt and a floral bodice. So I want new colors but I don’t know which ones!!! :) the other assistant has a navy blue over skirt and a lighter one underneath with a burgundy bodice. I want to know what colors I could use for my new costume that would look good and compliment hers, without looking too similar!!! any tips welcome!!!! thanks!

Please help me decide. Should I wear my poodle skirt for haloween or my renaissance queen costume?

  • July 6, 2010 6:28 pm

The poodle skirt costume is traditional. The renaissance queen costume is blue velvet with gold french brocade on the front of the bodice and skirt and a satin undershirt. I like them both equally, but I can’t decide which one to wear. Please don’t tell me which ever one you want to wear cuz it makes it harder to decide! If you want to see a photo of the renaissance costume check out this site: http://cgi.ebay.com/NVY-5PC-REGAL-RENAISSANCE-COSTUME-DRESS-CHEMISE-HOOP-RC_W0QQitemZ300031697026QQihZ020QQcategoryZ48560QQcmdZViewItem

The renaissance costume would be a little more of a hassle cuz I’d have to carry the hoop slip and the skirt at the same time so the dress doesn’t drag on the ground when I walk. What do y’all think?
