Your task is to choose a period in history and research the kind of clothes that were popular then. Answer all parts of the assignment: – Parts A, B, C, and D.
A.Choose a period of time and investigate the clothes worn during this time.
You may choose any time from ancient civilization to the 1990s.
The following suggestions may help:
•Ancient Egypt
•Elizabethan England
•American Civil War
•Medieval England
•1920s – The roaring twenties
•1960s and 70s
You will need to investigate the kinds of clothes that were worn by people who lived in the time that you have chosen by looking at books. Once you are familiar with the sorts of clothing worn, you will be able to choose an outfit that reflects the time chosen and that is within your skill level.
Once you have completed your explanation, you will need to show what you have found out by writing your answers to the following questions as a design brief
1.Write a brief 1-paragraph description of the period of time in history that you are investigating. Describe significant events that happened during this time. Include a short statement of what you are being asked to do for this project.
2.Write a 3-paragraph description of the typical clothes worn during that time. Ideally this would include clothing worn by men, women and children.
3.Sketch the outfit you have chosen on the outline of the bear that is attached to this assignment. Include with the sketch an explanation why you chose this outfit.
B.Investigate two fibres and the materials that can be made from them.
You are to investigate two fibres, with one used during the time chosen and the other chosen from the list below. You may not choose cotton as you studied this in Year Seven. You may choose two of the following fibres: -

Answer the following questions for each of the two fibres.
1.What is the source of the fibre? E.g. Cotton is a plant fibre from the bud of the cotton plant.(1 mark each)
2.Describe how the fibre is made into a fabric, giving a detailed explanation. A flow diagram may help.(5 marks each)
3.For each of the fibres chosen, list four types of fabric that can be made. Use the attached sheet to help you identify relevant fabrics. Include a sample of one of the fabrics for each fibre investigated. Draw a diagram to show how it might be used in clothing today, keeping in mind the properties of the fibre you have investigated.(4 marks each)
C.Design an evaluation form for the bear.
1.List five questions you would ask yourself when evaluating your costume. On how it turned out, likeness to the design, the good and maybe some bad points.
2.You will answer these questions when you finish your bear and hand it in for marking.
D.Complete your costume for the bear.
Dress your bear in the costume you have chosen for your design brief and hand it in for marking with your assignment.
